Thor Taking the Piss Out of Quill

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has introduced numerous villains, and some have had almost incomprehensibly cosmic powers. In Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, Star-Lord's father is revealed to be Ego, the Living Planet, a Celestial aiming to reshape the universe in his image through the Expansion. Ego may have been stopped by the Guardians, but he isn't the only Celestial with a dangerous agenda. The newest addition to the MCU, Eternals reveals that Celestials are hatched in the cores of certain planets and grow through the energy their population provides.

The Celestial Arishem the Judge sends the Eternals to ensure the safe Emergence of the Celestial Tiamut. Things don't go as planned, as the Eternal Sersi ultimately decides to stop the Emergence. Arishem takes the disobedient Celestials away from Earth, planning to judge both them and the planet they protected. There are a few MCU characters Arishem would approve of, and others who may tip the scale in Earth's favor upon the Judge's return.

10 WOULD APPROVE OF: Iron Man Kills Thanos And Sees The Bigger Picture

Iron Man would have not been happy with the concept of Earth being destroyed by a Celestial. Since his kidnapping in Afghanistan, Tony Stark has dedicated his life to protecting people. He hasn't always made best choices, but he was never wrong in determining that Thanos' threat was too powerful for the Avengers to counter on their own.

Tony is also the one who defeats Thanos, and not just by using the Infinity Gauntlet. With the help of Hank Pym's invention, the Pym Particles, he creates the time travel device that allows the Avengers to go through with the Time Heist plan. Iron Man sees the bigger picture and is able to take down a huge threat. Cruel though he may be, Arishem would appreciate that.

9 WOULDN'T APPROVE OF: Thanos Destroys Half The Universe

Much like Arishem's envoys to Earth, the Mad Titan Thanos is an Eternal. While the full extent of his background and connection to the rest of the Eternals is unclear, Thanos is also a deviant in the comics. By using the Infinity Gauntlet, he claims to end the wars for resources that plague many planets. He could have easily doubled the resources instead.

As a deviant and a threat to the universe itself, Thanos would be someone Arishem wouldn't approve of – which makes the Eternals' lack of involvement in the fight against him even stranger.

8 WOULD APPROVE OF: Thor Sacrifices Asgard For The Sake Of His People

Thor has changed a lot since his days as the arrogant and violent Prince of Asgard. The God of Thunder is forced to learn many harsh lessons through the loss of his family, starting from his mother Frigga in Thor: The Dark World, and ending with his brother in Avengers: Infinity War. In Thor: Ragnarok, Thor takes charge of his people as a true king and understands that the only way to stop his sister Hela and save his people is by sacrificing Asgard itself.

That ability to see the bigger picture is definitely something Arishem would appreciate. Thor does misstep in not aiming for Thanos' head and his trauma at his failure makes him unfit to lead his people. Despite everything, Thor is able to stand against Thanos and he is still worthy. Even Arishem would be inclined to give the God of Thunder time so that he could regain his former power.

7 WOULDN'T APPROVE OF: Captain America Is Too Stubbornly Idealistic

Captain America may have been a brilliant leader and strategist, but his time in the ice doesn't do him any favors. Steve Rogers is stubbornly idealistic, which doesn't make a great combination with his rightful mistrust toward various organizations. This, along with Steve's decision to keep the secret of the Starks' assassination from Tony, leads to the eventual fracturing of the Avengers.

Cap is also among those who insist on attempting to protect Vision, at a time when the destruction of the Mind Stone would have prevented disaster. Arishem would have most likely chosen to sacrifice Vision outright, for the good of everyone else.

6 WOULD APPROVE OF: The Watcher Breaks His Vow Of Non-Interference To Defeat A Greater Threat

In Marvel Comics canon, the Celestials oppose the Watchers, as the Watchers' vow of non-interference clashes with the Celestials' constant involvement in the lives of other species. That is exactly why Arishem may approve of Uatu the Watcher.

In Marvel's What If…?, Uatu finds himself facing Infinity Ultron, who is a threat to the Multiverse itself. While Arishem may feel the Watcher should have intervened before Ultron became too powerful, he would certainly appreciate Uatu's ultimate decision to gather the Guardians of the Multiverse to fight and defeat Ultron.

5 WOULDN'T APPROVE OF: Scarlet Witch's Powers Are A Little Too Unpredictable

Scarlet Witch is easily one of the most powerful characters in the MCU. She's also a wild card, and her chaos magic has been capable of performing feats that break reality. While her ability to fight Thanos is in its own way remarkable, it's Wanda's overall instability that could earn her Arishem's censure. A woman with such power at her fingertips, struggling under the weight of her depression, isn't someone the Celestial would approve of.

4 WOULD APPROVE OF: The Guardians Of The Galaxy Kill A Rogue Celestial

Arishem's anger with the Eternals stems from their attack on the Emerging Celestial Tiamut. Because of that, one would think that he would be inclined to punish Peter Quill and the other Guardians of the Galaxy as well, but Arishem is a creature of logic and he undoubtedly sees that Ego strayed from his purpose. Instead of giving birth to worlds and civilizations, Ego was determined to reshape the universe in his image. That certainly isn't something that matches Arishem's agenda.

3 WOULDN'T APPROVE OF: Doctor Strange Can Be Careless With The Power He Wields

Doctor Strange has proven himself more than worthy of being the protector of the Time Stone. His confrontation with Dormammu forces him to go through one of the most painful experiences possible, killing him over and over again. During the fight with Thanos, he sees the only option to win the war involves losing the first battle.

But on occasion, Strange has been careless with the power he wields. The role he plays in Spider-Man: No Way Home isn't completely clear yet, but it's easy to tell that his spell – gone awry after Spider-Man's intervention – fractures the boundaries between universes. The What If…? version of Doctor Strange is even more extreme, as he abuses his power in an attempt to bring back his dead lover Christine Palmer, leading to the utter collapse of his universe.

2 WOULD APPROVE OF: He Who Remains Holds A Tight Rein Over The Timeline To Prevent Disaster

The villain of the Marvel Disney+ series Loki, He Who Remains is a surprising addition to the show. The protagonist of the series, Variant Loki, makes his way to the Citadel at the End of Time with his female alternate self Sylvie. The two find the mysterious architect of the Time Variance Authority and learn the cruel truth behind the organization.

He Who Remains – identified as Kang as Conqueror – created the TVA to control deviations in the Sacred Timeline that would keep the Multiverse in check and prevent another Multiverse war. Controlling choice to this extent may be questionable, but it seems the lesser evil. In that sense, it would certainly be something Arishem would approve of.

1 WOULDN'T APPROVE OF: Sylvie Unbalances The Multiverse For Revenge

While controlling the Multiverse may be a good idea for the big picture, Sylvie is a little too focused on her revenge to care. Despite Loki's best attempts to persuade her to find an alternate solution, Sylvie kills He Who Remains. As a result, the Sacred Timeline fractures.

Sent through a Timedoor by Sylvie, Loki lands in an alternate version of the TVA, this one controlled by Kang. It's certainly not the desired outcome, and the consequences of Sylvie's actions wouldn't make any Celestial happy.
